Gadgets That Really Work

Almost everyone has made the decision to buy one of those ‘gadgets’ that they have seen in a commercial on television. In many cases, we see the arrival of the item and it does not perform in the ‘amazing’ way that was described.  We feel, of course, silly and that once again we have allowed ourselves to be taken advantage of.  But there are some gadgets that actually live up to the name and advertising.

One of the best (and lowest cost) investments ever made is a high quality potato peeler. This drudgery is something that is shared by all and if it can be done more quickly, with a higher level of efficiency, it saves a lot of time (especially if you are doing a lot of peeling).  Another item that was worth its weight in gold is a multi-alarm pill reminder. Purchasing this for either yourself or someone that is on a major medication regimen that involves multiple medications at different times of the day is an absolute win. It eliminates the confusion of being unsure if (or when) they took their meds and is easily set to remind for the next time medication is needed.

One of the best gifts that I ever gave to someone was a stainless steel infrared soap dispenser. A good friend of mine has five kids and they were constantly passing colds and flu to each other. It seems that even though they ‘washed’ their hands, the culprit was the soap dispenser that they all touched. The infrared sensor allowed the kids to get the soap they needed, without putting all of their germs on it.

Creative and fun design wall hooks that attach to the wall with ‘suckers’ has eliminated the many nail holes in the house. These are made in an array of animal shapes and styles and can be easily moved from one location of the wall to another. They are perfect for kids to hang things on and the adjustment allows them to continue to use them as they grow.

For a friend that was always a bit skittish about leaving her jewelry in the box when she went out, I got a disguisable security box that was in the shape of a ‘book’. She could put her small collection in and file it away with all of her other books with a feeling of safety and security.
